Deerfield Beach Elementary School Safe Routes to School Grant Application
Wednesday, December 15, 2021
A public meeting to discuss the proposed project for Deerfield Beach Elementary Safe Routes to School.
The City of Deerfield Beach, in partnership with Deerfield Beach Elementary School, is applying for a grant through the Florida Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program for sidewalk improvements. The program, whose goal is to make it safer for children to walk and bicycle to school, funds projects that address unsafe or lack of infrastructure though a competitive grant process. The grant aligns with the City's mission to create a safe, healthy and active community that embraces culture, economic growth, recreation, and educational opportunities inclusive to all.
Deerfield Beach Elementary has a large percentage of students who walk and bike to school. Consequently, the City would like to construct sidewalk improvements along the school's routes. The goal of the project is to fill in sidewalk gaps within an estimated half mile radius of the school to improve the conditions for walking and biking and increase pedestrian and bicycle safety. The scope of work will involve constructing 36.373 linear feet of 5 feet wide sidewalks. The estimated construction cost of the project is $1,439,732.86.
