Education

The City of Deerfield Beach is committed to implementing and supporting educational programs and activities that benefit Deerfield Beach students and the community at large.  The City is demonstrating this commitment by:

  • Establishing the Education Advisory Board whose mission is to foster educational opportunities for students in Deerfield Beach, so that each student has the ability, opportunity, and support to pursue their dreams and to live a life of purpose and fulfillment. Learn more about the EAB.
  • Establishing the Quarterly Principal’s Roundtable 
  • Participating in the Reading Pals & Tutor Mate Programs with Deerfield Beach schools; and
  • Recognizing Deerfield Beach students’ achievements through scholarship and achievement awards.

Bryce Gowdy Student Scholar-Athlete of the Month Program

The City of Deerfield Beach Education Advisory Board (EAB) established the “Bryce Gowdy Student Scholar-Athlete of the Month” award to recognize Deerfield Beach middle and high school students who are excelling in academics, sports, and community involvement. 

Eligible students must: 

  • Be a Current Deerfield Beach resident;
  • Have a core unweighted minimum GPA of 3.25; and
  • Have completed Community Service hours (minimum 20 hrs. in the last calendar year)

The Education Advisory Board will select a winner monthly. Awardees will be honored with a certificate of achievement at a City Commission meeting and have a photo taken with the City Commission.

Students are encouraged to apply for the award. The Bryce Gowdy Student Scholar-Athlete of the Month Applications are due by the third Friday of the month at 5:00 PM. Email applications to the Community Services Department

Elementary and Middle School Academic Achievement Award

The City of Deerfield Beach Education Advisory Board (“EAB”) established the Elementary and Middle School Academic Achievement Award to foster academic and personal achievement. The quarterly award will be given to high-performing students in the City's elementary and middle schools. 

Teachers and school administrators are encouraged to select one elementary and middle school student in grades (3 – 5) and (6-8), respectively, each quarter who has demonstrated one or more of the following criteria:

  1. Exceptional academic ability;
  2. Significant improvement in academic performance;
  3. Strong personal character; and/or
  4. Stewardship of one's environment and peers.

Students who are awarded the Elementary and Middle School Academic Achievement Award will be honored with a certificate of achievement at a City Commission meeting and have a photo taken with the City Commission. Past recipients of this honor will be given additional consideration for the City's end-of-year academic awards.

HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP Award

 

The City of Deerfield Beach Education Advisory Board (EAB) established the City of Deerfield Beach Academic Scholarship Award to foster educational opportunities for high school students in Deerfield Beach as they prepare for post-secondary education. 

The Deerfield Beach EAB will select two graduating seniors as winners for the school year 2022/2023. One recipient will receive a one-time $2,000 scholarship, and one recipient will receive a one-time $1,500 scholarship for demonstrating excellence in the classroom and community.                 

Eligibility Requirements


The student must be a Deerfield Beach resident (proof of residency required).

Must have a core unweighted GPA of 3.0 (minimum).

Must have completed a minimum of 40 hours of community service in the current year or 120 hours cumulative.

Must have applied to at least one (1) college/university/trade school/military and received an acceptance letter from such institution before receiving funding. 

Must submit at least two (2) character references.

Must submit a personal essay (up to 500 words).
