A curfew has been issued for barrier island residents of Deerfield Beach beginning Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 12 PM. The remainder of the City will begin its curfew at 4 PM also on Saturday, September 9, 2017.
The order reads as follows:
NOW THEREFORE, AS CITY MANAGER OF THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH AND PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY SET FORTH ABOVE I DO HEREBY INSTITUTE A CURFEW TO BE IN EFFECT WITHIN THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH AS FOLLOWS:
No person shall be allowed in the public or private streets or places throughout during the hours in which the curfew is in effect, except for the provision of designated, essential services, such as fire, utilities, police, emergency medical services and hospital services, including the transportation of patients, utility emergency repairs, and emergency calls by physicians. The provisions of this subsection shall not apply to government employees in the performance of essential services or while in the service of protecting the life, health, property, welfare or public peace of the community.

This curfew is to ensure the safety of all residents, as well as the property and businesses of Deerfield Beach and Hillsboro Beach from looters and individuals taking advantage of Hurricane Irma.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office will have zero tolerance for looting and violation of the instituted curfew will result in arrest.
