Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
Join the City of Deerfield Beach along with city leaders, civic organizations and churches, as we pay homage to this great Civil Rights leader. This three-day long event features a choir competition, games and day of service kick off with an exciting parade presented by Arrigo Margate, plus a family-friendly picnic celebrating the birth of Martin Luther King, Jr.

2019 Grand Marshal
Broward County Court Judge Phoebee Francois will serve as Grand Marshal. Francois is a 50 year old Haitian American woman, who was appointed to the bench in June 2018. Francois has worked at the Broward County Courthouse for nine years. She became a general magistrate in 2009 when
then Chief Circuit Judge Victor Tobin appointed her to take testimony and recommend decisions. She went on to replace retired County Magistrate Deborah McClosky. Francois has also served as chairperson and supervisor of other magistrates and hearing officers. By the time she was appointed to the Broward Bench, she had presided over more than 36,000 family law cases.
2019 Keynote Speaker
Deerfield Beach native, Reverend Demetric Ford of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church will be the keynote speaker at this year's Ceremony that will take place Monday, January 21, 2019. Pastor Ford has strong roots here in South Florida as he received his Bachelor of Business Administration, International Finance and Marketing from the University of Miami and an MBA from Nova Southeastern University. Pastor Ford received his Master of Divinity in 2012. The late Reverend Willie James Ford, Sr., humbly passed the mantle of leadership of the Bethlehem Church Congregation to his beloved son on Sunday, January 25, 2015, and he has since faithfully served the church and the Deerfield Beach community. Come on out and receive a great word of inspiration and hope from Reverend Ford. The sermon will be followed by a community beautification project at the Reverend Willie James Ford, Sr. Linear Park.
Church Choir Competition Information
On Sunday, January 20th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM the Annual Choir Competition will be held. Each choir will have 15 minutes to perform their best songs. In the end, the judges will decide who gets to go home with the traveling trophy along with $1,000! (Limited to 10 entries, first come, first serve basis. Choir groups must be affiliated with a church.) The winning choir must be available to sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at the ceremony on Monday, January 21st at 12:00 PM.

2019 Service Project Volunteer
The City is looking for Volunteers to assist with the beautification project at Pastor Willie James Ford, Sr. Linear Park, 500 SW 10th Street. Those looking to be a volunteer, please click HERE.
Complimentary Shuttle ServiceShuttle service will be provided for walkers in the MLK parade presented by Arrigo Margate from Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex (445 SW 2nd St.) to Pioneer Park (217 NE 5th Ave) starting at 8:00 AM. The last shuttle for participants will be at 8:30 AM. If MLK parade presented by Arrigo Margate participants arrive after 8:30 AM they will need to drive to Pioneer Park as there will no longer be transportation provided before the MLK parade presented by Arrigo Margate start.
Shuttle service will be provided back to Pioneer Park (217 NE 5th Ave) from the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex (445 SW 2nd St.) following the conclusion of the MLK parade presented by Arrigo Margate until 5:00 PM, or when the picnic concludes.
